Kim constantly meddled in their marriage, lacking empathy and causing more harm than good.

Welcome To Plathville season 6 has shown another side to Kim Plath, who blames her ex-daughter-in-law Olivia Plath for tearing her family apart when it was Kim’s fault all along. Throughout the run of Welcome To Plathville, Kim’s relationship with her son Ethan Plath and his wife Olivia has been a difficult one to watch. While Kim believes she’s doing the best things for her children and their relationships, her selfish behavior has been creating chaos for years. Kim’s erratic, self-centered choices have been thrown onto her now ex-daughter-in-law too many times to count, making their relationship impossible to manage.

Kim and Olivia started out with a fairly normal relationship to one another, with Kim doing her best to be respectful of Olivia and Ethan’s relationship while Olivia tried to support her husband’s relationship with his mother. When Kim’s behavior started coming to light, things changed quickly for the Welcome To Plathville stars. Rather than allowing Ethan to continue to fold over for his mother’s wishes, Olivia made it clear that she wouldn’t stand for the way Kim treated her kids. With no one having stood up to Kim in the past, she painted Olivia as a villain to everyone.

Kim Pushed Ethan & Olivia To Marry Young

The Couple Wasn’t Ready For Marriage

Although Ethan and Olivia were engaged for a year when they got married, the pair’s wedding was pushed by Kim and Barry Plath, as they wanted the couple to legitimize their relationship. Olivia, who’s estranged from her family from a conflict in beliefs, had been raised in a fundamentalist religion the same way Ethan was. While the Plath family has become far more modern in the last several years, their upbringings were similar and the couple connected from experiences they’d had in their youth. While their relationship was headed to marriage, Kim pushed things along with religion as an excuse.

Ethan and Olivia were each only 20 years old when they married each other, having gotten engaged at 19 years old. The pair were happy to be able to move forward as a married couple, as both were still steeped in religious beliefs that limited their relationship before marriage. After years together, it was clear they weren’t ready to be married. Instead of focusing on growing together as a married couple, Ethan and Olivia began to grow apart because they hadn’t taken time to get to know each other deeply enough for marriage. Kim’s pushing caused more harm than good.

Although Kim’s behavior in pushing her son and Olivia to marry early was already overly involved, it quickly became clear that her involvement in their relationship wasn’t going to end after the wedding. Kim was involved in everything to do with their relationship, especially when it came to Ethan. Having ruined Ethan’s finances by using credit cards in his name, Kim had a hold over Ethan that Olivia was determined to break. Though Ethan felt conflicted, he understood that Olivia was his wife and ultimately, his loyalty should belong to her in moments of conflict between himself and his mother.

Even though he understood the divide between the women, Ethan’s behavior didn’t always show that he grasped where he should stand. Kim was pushy with Ethan, guilt-tripping her son and trying to keep him in her life with any means necessary. Olivia, who knew she was up against something incredibly strong, tried to keep her wits about her, but Kim dragged her name through the mud consistently. While Ethan knew that his mother shouldn’t be so involved in his marriage, he didn’t always do much to stop her from butting into problems that she shouldn’t be privy to at all.

Kim Isn’t An Empathetic Person

She Doesn’t Understand Others’ Feelings

Kim’s behavior throughout Welcome To Plathville’s run has shown that she doesn’t know how to practice empathy for anyone, especially the people in her family. Kim’s always been a selfish person, but seeing it in practice is difficult for her family, who expect her to be able to empathize with their problems and provide comfort or compassion. Instead, Kim often feels dull when she discusses issues with her kids, bringing the conversations back to herself instead of providing help or care.

Even with Kim struggling to be empathetic to others outside of her family, the fact that she can’t empathize with her kids or their partners is a tough blow. Olivia frequently tried to be rational and logical with Kim surrounding issues they had, but Kim blew up emotionally when it came to any sort of confrontation. Instead of thinking of what was in the best interest of Ethan, Olivia, or their marriage, Kim could only think of herself in difficult moments.

Olivia Is Taking The Blame When It’s Kim’s Fault

She’s Blaming The Ex For Her Mistakes

Although Kim has been clear that she feels it’s Olivia’s fault that the marriage ended and Ethan’s heart is broken, it’s Kim who caused the issues between Ethan and Olivia to get so bad. While the couple definitely had their own problems, Kim’s insistence that they marry early, meddling behavior in their relationship, and the fact that she refused to emotionally resonate with the couple made it clear she was at fault. Rather than blaming Olivia, the Welcome To Plathville star should look inward if she’s looking for someone to take the blame.
