Taylor Kinney is back as Kelly Severide in a brand new Chicago Fire season 13 behind-the-scenes image. Squad 3's leader is one of very few remaining original characters left in One Chicago after Chief Wallace Boden's departure in the Chicago Fire season 12 finale. Because of this, there's increased interest in what lies ahead for Severide as he continues his stint in Firehouse 51. Not appearing in the first One Chicago promotional video for the upcoming season raised concerns about his involvement. Luckily, a fresh photo from the set of Chicago Fire season 13 can effectively put those to rest.

The image shows Kinney during a filming break chit-chatting with some of his co-stars. That includes Randy Flagler as Senior Firefighter Harold Capp and Anthony Ferraris as Firefighter Tony Ferraris, as well as Michael Bradway as Jack Damon — Benny Severide's son, as revealed in the Chicago Fire season 12 finale.

The last couple of years have been rocky for Firehouse 51. Some of its most important personnel have left for various reasons, including Jesse Spencer's Matt Casey and most recently, Chief Boden. Severide and the aforementioned duo have been the faces of Chicago Fire since it premiered in 2012, but now, only Kinney's character is left to continue in the beloved firehouse. While there's no doubt that the Squad 3 leader will be able to move forward despite suffering these losses, it's curious how Casey and Boden's absence will impact Severide's work in season 13.

Beyond his professional arc, there's also interest in his personal story. If anything, this aspect of his life is more intriguing because of recent events. For starters, his marriage with Stella Kidd has been mired with challenges. The pair is fresh from a very difficult year after Severide essentially ghosted his wife for months. Rebuilding Kidd's trust wasn't easy, but Severide was willing to do it. With that time in their lives seemingly done, the couple is now looking at another conundrum — whether to start a family in Chicago Fire season 13 or later.
