Darth Maul has had a fascinating journey from a Sith of few words to a cyborg out for revenge, leading to many outstanding Star Wars cosplays. Because Maul's screen time was so limited in Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace, the team behind Star Wars: The Clone Wars had the freedom to develop his character when he returned in season 4. Each subsequent Maul appearance has added a new dimension to the character, whether in a TV show or movie.
It has also sparked the imagination of countless Star Wars fans, including alexburnsfx on Instagram, who shared an outstanding and highly detailed Darth Maul cosplay:
This version of Maul is inspired by concept art from a canceled Darth Maul video game that was in development before Star Wars was sold to Disney. This alternate take on Maul highlights one of his greatest strengths whenever he is brought back for a new story.
Darth Maul Stories Have Incredible Potential
There is so much variety across different mediums

While many Star Wars characters feel set in stone, Darth Maul has been portrayed uniquely across different stories. Before he returned in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, he was revived for a fascinating, non-canon comic called "Old Wounds" by Aaron McBride, where he tracks Ben Kenobi to Tatooine. Concept art developed for Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace and Solo: A Star Wars Story show radically different versions of Maul or illustrate him with alternate costumes and weapons.
Even the canceled Darth Maul stories still have potential, despite no longer fitting into the official Star Wars canon. George Lucas had several ideas to bring Maul back, from the canceled video game where he would return as a clone to the original plans for the Star Wars sequel trilogy where he would have been the main villain. Solo teased Darth Maul at the end but never followed up onscreen, leaving room for a future movie or TV show. Darth Maul's main story may be complete, but there is still plenty of potential for him to return to Star Wars.
