Shawn Levy Hints At A Standalone Star Wars Movie Exploring A Brand New Part Of The Timeline
Summary Shawn Levy is working on a Star Wars movie set in a new era, promising innovation.
Levy's Star Wars movie signals a departure from the Skywalker Saga.
Levy's project joins a growing list of Star Wars content moving beyond the Skywalker storyline.
Shawn Levy's Star Wars movie will evidently take place in a brand-new part of the Star Wars timeline, according to a recent interview. Little is known about Levy's Star Wars movie, which is true of multiple upcoming Star Wars movies. However, with Deadpool & Wolverine now wrapped up, Levy may very well be shifting his attention to this new Star Wars project. In fact, Levy's recent update suggests exactly that and hints that the movie will truly bring something new to Star Wars movies and TV shows.
In an interview on Happy Sad Confused with Josh Horowitz, Levy spoke about both Deadpool & Wolverine and his upcoming and so far untitled upcoming Star Wars movie. Specifically, Levy spoke about his intentions for the movie to be truly innovative in the franchise:
“I’ll say that the experience of crafting this story has forced me to think about that question. Because there’s only so many times that Star Wars movies can revisit the same section of the timeline, and so it’s really forced me — because I don’t want to do a Star Wars movie that is redundant to others, nor am I interested in doing one that has to serve another movie. I really wanted to craft something that felt organic to me, both in tone and characters, so I think that there is certainly the Force and a connection to something bigger than our individual selves. And the way that that can make us powerful, those themes, combined with visual delight and wish fulfillment, that's Star Wars to me."
Clearly, Levy intends for his Star Wars movie to explore a new era in the Star Wars timeline, meaning that the possibilities truly are wide open.

Star Wars Is Finally Moving Beyond The Skywalker Saga
Close
With this update from Shawn Levy, it's clear that yet another upcoming Star Wars project will be moving beyond the Skywalker Saga. This saga was meant to have ended with Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, although it wasn't immediately clear what that would look like. Everyone in the Skywalker bloodline had died, but Rey did adopt the last name at the end of The Rise of Skywalker, raising questions about what this meant for the Skywalker Saga's supposed end.
The conclusion of the Saga seems to have much more to do with the timeline than the name.
However, the conclusion of the Saga seems to have much more to do with the timeline than the name. Specifically, the Saga began in Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace and concluded with The Rise of Skywalker, signaling that anything coming before or after these periods reflects a story beyond the Skywalker Saga. Star Wars has already introduced a number of projects that will do exactly that.
This began with the franchise's most recent release, The Acolyte, which was set 100 years before The Phantom Menace in the High Republic Era. Although this show did have clear connections to the Skywalker Saga—not only with the ways Osha and Mae were reminiscent of Anakin Skywalker's story but also with the shocking Yoda cameo at the end of the finale—this was an exploration of a brand-new era on screen.
However, this trend is set to continue with Rey's upcoming Star Wars movie, rumored to be titled New Jedi Order, and a movie set 25,000 years before the Skywalker Saga. The latter is rumored to be titled Dawn of the Jedi and will explore the origins of the Jedi and the discovery of the Force. The former will presumably see Rey establishing her own Jedi Order and is confirmed to be set 15 years after The Rise of Skywalker.

Now, it seems, Shawn Levy's movie will be added to this growing list of Star Wars projects moving beyond the Skywalker Saga. However, what exactly that entails remains to be seen. Hopefully, Star Wars will offer an update on this intriguing movie soon.
