This article covers a developing story. Continue to check back with us as we will be adding more information as it becomes available.
Summary The Russo brothers' return to direct two new Avengers movies in the MCU will impact their commitment to Prime Video's Citadel season 2.
Joe Russo will direct fewer episodes of Citadel season 2, despite his directorial status for the whole season being a key factor in its renewal.
The Russo brothers' commitment to the MCU makes sense due to the lack of popularity for Citadel, which Prime Video is still trying to make into a major touchstone of their streaming platform.
The Russo brothers' MCU return is going to reportedly impact their involvement in Prime Video's Citadel season 2, despite an initial commitment to the returning spy thriller. At San Diego Comic-Con, it was revealed the directors would be returning to the superhero universe, directing the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. The creatives still have other projects they're involved in, though, including acting as executive producers on the MGM+ series From and being a key part of the Citadel universe.
Now, Puck reports that, despite an initial commitment from Joe Russo to direct all episodes of Citadel season 2, that number has been reduced following the brothers' MCU return. Russo will instead be directing three or four episodes of the new season, although it's unclear how many episodes in total it's going to have. This shows where the brothers' priorities lie, but also seems to be another blow for the rather unpopular Prime Video original.
More to come...
