Sadie Sink offers a cryptic clue about Max Mayfield's current status going into Stranger Things season 5. Introduced in season 2, Max impressed the main group with her gaming skills, but ultimately found herself dragged into the horrific happenings involving the Upside Down. After the possession and loss of her brother, Billy (Dacre Montgomery), Max became the target of Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower) and was left severely injured and comatose going into Stranger Things season 5.
Sink and the Duffer brothers hint that Max may still play an active role in Stranger Things season 5 while speaking to Variety. Max's final fate in Stranger Things season 4 was one of the season's most heartbreaking conclusions. Despite avoiding a large-scale tragedy, Max's arms and legs were left broken, and she was blinded. She only just narrowly survived thanks to the intervention of Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown). Even with her friend's miraculous powers, though, Max's wounds go far beyond physical scars. When Eleven tried to reach Max in the mysterious void at her hospital bedside, Max was nowhere to be found.
