Suits: LA Is Already Guaranteed To Do One Thing Better Than Suits After 1 Big Change
Summary Suits: L.A. will be shot on location in LA for authenticity and easier production.
The original Suits was filmed in Toronto, not in New York City.
The new cast and LA setting of Suits: L.A. differentiates it from the original series.
After Suits' surprising resurgence on Netflix in 2023, NBC has ordered Suits: L.A. and the upcoming spinoff is already righting one of the original TV show's wrongs. The legal drama, which debuted on the USA Network in 2011, ran for nine seasons and 134 episodes before coming to an end in 2019. Korsh has already attempted to expand the Suits universe with the 2019 spinoff Pearson featuring Gina Torres reprising her role as Jessica Pearson. Suits' first spinoff show ultimately failed when Peacock canceled it after one season, but that likely won't be the case for Suits: L.A.
Suits' massive streaming success on Netflix resulted in Korsh and NBCUniversal circling back to the series, and Suits: L.A. was born. It was obvious that the demand for more Suits was there, especially after gaining many new fans thanks to Netflix. So, the spinoff will bring the franchise to Los Angeles and star Stephen Amell as Ted Black, a federal prosecutor who moved from New York to LA (where he leads Black Lane Law alongside Josh McDermitt's Stuart Lane). Although Suits: L.A. will feature an all-new cast, it's still set in the Suits universe, meaning that some original characters may cameo.

The all-new cast in Suits: L.A. and its Los Angeles setting indicate that the spinoff is trying to avoid being a carbon copy of Suits. However, the upcoming legal drama is also differentiating itself from the original via its filming location. Suits: L.A. will fittingly station its production in Los Angeles, which, as one can assume from the title, is where the TV show takes place. The pilot was filmed in Vancouver, but production is moving to the United States for the remainder of season 1.
Suits was filmed in Toronto and not New York to save money (as it's much more expensive for movies and TV shows to film in New York).
Even though Suits took place in New York City, the cast and crew didn't actually film the series in the Big Apple. Instead, Gabriel Macht, Patrick J. Adams, Sarah Rafferty, and the rest of the Suits cast captured scenes in Toronto. Suits was filmed in Toronto and not New York to save money (as it's much more expensive for movies and TV shows to film in New York). While the crew tried its hardest to replicate the city, it would have been much more authentic if the episodes were shot in New York.

How Being Shot On Location Helps Suits: LA Be Better Than The Original
The Suits Spinoff Will Be More Authentic
Suits: L.A. being shot on location in Los Angeles certainly helps the production crew. They don't have to put in the extra effort to make a city that's not LA look like it and can focus on other pressing matters. However, filming in the city where a show is set also helps it look more authentic by incorporating scenes at real, iconic landmarks. The cast of Suits: L.A. can also film more exterior shots, whereas the original series had to limit itself to more indoor scenes so as not to give away its true location.
