Cobra Kai Star’s 2024 Horror Movie Becomes Hit On Streaming Charts, Despite 38% RT Score

The Cobra Kai cast comes from broad backgrounds. On the one hand, one of the main actors is Ralph Macchio, who plays an adult version of the classic Karate Kid character Daniel LaRusso. William Zabka also reprises his role as Johnny Lawrence, bringing back another character from earlier on in the Karate Kid franchise. Including these familiar faces makes Cobra Kai seem more connected to the original franchise, and draws in a potentially wider audience of those familiar with the older characters.

At the same time, Cobra Kai's cast also includes younger members alongside the aging stars. This includes actors such as Xolo Maridueña, Jacob Bertrand, Mary Mouser, and Peyton List. List, now 26 years old, has been in the industry since she was a child actress. She played lead character Emma Ross in the Disney Channel TV series Jessie, which started when she was only 13 years old. She also played key roles in Diary of a Wimpy Kid and 27 Dresses. Now, one of List's more recent, and far more adult, films is finding streaming success.

The Inheritance has now become a streaming hit. The film is a 2024 horror movie about a billionaire who invites his estranged children to his home on the eve of his 75th birthday, afraid something or someone is plotting to kill him. In order to make sure his kids will help, he puts their inheritances on the line. List plays Kami, one of these children, among a cast that includes Bob Gunton, Briana Middleton, Rachel Nichols, Austin Stowell, and David Walton. The Inheritance was disliked by critics, who gave it a 38% Tomatometer on Rotten Tomatoes.

Despite its negative reviews, The Inheritance has now become a streaming success. The horror movie has been trending on Hulu this week, floating around the platform's top 10. It peaked at no. 3 within the platform's top 15 movies earlier this week, and now sits as the no. 14 most popular title. Even outside of the top 5, The Inheritance has still managed to keep its top 15 status.

The concept of The Inheritance is an intriguing horror setup, which may help the film as it continues on streaming.
