Dexter Season 8 Might Have Already Confirmed A Major Replacement Character’s Tragic Death In The Prequel Show
WARNING: SPOILERS ahead for Dexter: Original Sin episode 4.
After four episodes, the Dexter prequel series Dexter: Original Sin may have already foreshadowed the eventual death of the new character, Bobby Watt. Developed by New Blood creator Clyde Phillips, the prequel series chronicles a post-college Dexter as he embraces his "dark passenger" through the guidance and teachings of his adopted father, Harry. Dexter implements Harry's code to satisfy his violent urges while making sure never to get caught. The cast of Dexter: Original Sin is led by Patrick Gibson as the new titular protagonist alongside newcomers Molly Brown, Christian Slater, Patrick Dempsey, and Sarah Michelle Gellar.
After Michael C. Hall reprised his iconic role as the charismatic vigilante serial killer in 2021's Dexter: New Blood, he returns as Dexter's inner voice and narrator in the prequel series. The series takes place in Miami in 1991 as Dexter begins his career at Miami Metro PD. Dexter: Original Sin will likely cover a few anticipated kills that are already established in Dexter's lore. Another upcoming Dexter series, Dexter: Resurrection, is expected to be released in the summer of 2025 with Hall also slated to return. Dexter: Original Sin could be the first of several new Dexter spin-offs and sequel series in the coming years.

Bobby Watt Appears To Be Replacing Harry Morgan's Partner Davey Sanchez From The Original Show

Bobby Watt, played by Reno Wilson, is Harry Morgan's longtime partner at Miami Metro PD in Dexter: Original Sin. This appears to be a major character change from the original series, which indicated that Harry's partner was actually named Davey Sanchez. Despite this well-established Dexter lore, however, there's no Davey Sanchez in Original Sin throughout the first four episodes. Additionally, there is no actor cast as Davey Sanchez in the prequel series, which hints at the fact that instead, Harry's partner for decades was Bobby Watt. Bobby is pictured in several of Harry's flashback scenes with Laura Moser.
While it has not become a highlight of Original Sin, Bobby Watt and Harry Morgan's relationship is quite tight-knit based on their decades of experience working together. Bobby takes on sort of an uncle role to Dexter in the early episodes of Original Sin, which shows that Bobby has known Dexter for most of his life and, more importantly, knows that he is the son of Laura Moser. While Harry and Laura's romance continues to play out during the flashback sequences of Dexter: Original Sin, Bobby will likely have more of an integral role in that particular storyline, especially since he was working with Harry and Laura, who was their criminal informant.
Dexter Season 8 Reveals Davey Sanchez Was Murdered By A Criminal Who Walked Free
Juan Ryness killed Davey Sanchez and could kill Bobby Watt in Original Sin
In season 8 of the original Dexter series, it was implied that Harry's old partner Davey Sanchez was killed by a criminal who walked free named Juan Ryness. Interestingly, Harry witnessed Dexter dismembering Juan Ryness, who Dexter murdered to make things right after he killed Davey Sanchez, which ended up leading Harry to die by suicide. Although Dexter believed that Harry died from heart failure, he actually could not handle the grim reality of Dexter murdering people, even when they aligned with the code. If Bobby Watt is truly Davey Sanchez's replacement, it sets up a huge tragedy for his character before Harry's death in Original Sin.
Harry spoke fondly of Davey Sanchez in season 1 of the original series. "Davey Sanchez was a fearless and dedicated cop. Davey Sanchez was a son, a husband, and a father. Davey Sanchez was my partner. Davey Sanchez was my hero." In a flashback scene in the Dexter season 1 episode "Crocodile", Harry explains to Dexter that sometimes, bad guys slip through the cracks in the American judicial system, which acts as an early motivation for Harry's support of Dexter's vigilantism. Based on Harry and Bobby's relationship in Original Sin, it seems more than likely that he will end up sharing an identical fate to Davey Sanchez.
Bobby Watt's Teased Death Has A Massive Impact On The Entire Dexter Franchise
Juan Ryness was Dexter's fourth kill, which means Bobby's death could be imminent
Close
The death of Harry's partner in the original Dexter series is what causes Harry to become more serious about supporting Dexter's use of the Code, especially when he can take out the killers that the Miami Metro Police Department can't bring to justice. It also leads to a major motivating factor in Harry's ultimately decision to die by suicide. Because Davey Sanchez has such a foundational role in Dexter and Harry's lore, Bobby Watt will essentially have to stand in for Davey, unless the Dexter: Original Sin writers are planning to introduce a massive retcon.
It's also possible that Davey Sanchez could be a character introduced in later episodes of Dexter: Original Sin. Considering, however, that Juan Ryness is already established as Dexter's fourth human kill in the original series, and Dexter already has two (and sort of three if you count Mad Dog) under his belt in the prequel series, Bobby Watt's days on the show could be numbered.
