Buffy The Vampire Slayer Reimagined With Into The Spider-Verse's Meta Intro: “Let’s Do This One Last Time”

Buffy the Vampire Slayer gets reimagined with the meta-intro from Into the Spider-Verse. Talk of a Buffy revival has spiked recently, with lead star Sarah Michelle Gellar expressing more willingness to revisit her iconic role than she has in the past. Although no follow-up project has been announced, the possibility has sparked a divided response from fans of the original, with those in favor of a direct continuation and others who would rather see the focus turn to a new group of characters.

A video from Trevor Carlee imagines what it would be like if the seminal 1990s series got the Into the Spider-Verse treatment, threading the line between something entirely new that nonetheless acknowledges the past. As in the animated Spider-Man movie, Buffy Summers narrates some of her standout moments from the show. That includes sending her boyfriend to Hell or fighting her way out of a hellish dimension herself. She also acknowledges that there have been comics and even video games. Check out the video below:

Buffy's Attire Stands Out

Buffy is wearing a black top and red leather jeans in the video, even as she speeds through some of Buffy the Vampire Slayer's most memorable scenes. Buffy only sported that specific look for a few episodes late in season 3, though it's been immortalized in promotional photos and closely associated with the character. The video begins with a shot of the comics, which includes a credit to series creator Joss Whedon.

From there, Buffy recaps meeting Giles. She briefly talks about falling in love and killing Angel. She's seen with a bazooka, taking out The Judge very late in season 2. She fights with The Master and is seen at a moment in the season 3 premiere, "Anne." Plus, there's a speedrun of instances where she and the Scooby Gang saved the world — including her death at the end of Buffy season 5.

Buffy is happy to talk about the show's theme song, but she's less enthused about the 1992 movie that shares the same name as the show. She's also mixed on the video games based on the series. In line with Spider-Verse, but also the core tenet for much of the series, Buffy says that she's the one and only slayer. But many viewers know otherwise.

It May Be The Only Way A Reboot Works

A continuation of the supernatural drama is baked into the premise, with several spinoffs being discussed around the time that Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel ended in the mid-2000s. None of the spinoffs moved forward for one reason or another. But now, 20 years after both shows ended, it would have to be different from what Whedon, Marti Noxon, Jane Espenson, and other writers did in the original. While the video is a little meta about it, it proves the point that the revival show shouldn't try to recapture that old magic.
