How It Could Have Been: Incredible Star Wars Art Shows The Ultimate What If

This stunning Star Wars art depicting Anakin Skywalker, Ahsoka Tano, and Obi-Wan Kenobi standing together as Jedi Masters is absolutely beautiful, but it's also a heartbreaking reminder of all that was lost following Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith. Ahsoka, Anakin, and Obi-Wan are undoubtedly among Star Wars' best characters, and they represent some of Star Wars' best duos. In fact, Star Wars: The Clone Wars not only introduced Ahsoka and her friendship with Anakin but also deepened Anakin and Obi-Wan's on-screen bond. This made the outcome of their stories all the more tragic.

This beautiful Star Wars art, posted by venamis on Instagram, imagines Ahsoka Tano, Anakin Skywalker, and Obi-Wan Kenobi all standing side by side one another as Jedi Masters—something that sadly never truly came to pass in Star Wars. Aptly, the caption indicates that this is "How it could've been," had Anakin not fallen to the dark side and the Jedi not been nearly eradicated during Order 66.

As stunning as this art truly is, it's also bittersweet because it's a reminder of the many things that were lost because of Anakin's fall to the dark side, Order 66, and Emperor Palpatine's rise to power.

"How It Could've Been" Is The Perfect Caption

In A Different Version Of This Story, These Three Jedi Would Be Unbeatable

Although Anakin was fated to fall to the dark side and become Darth Vader, the deep friendships that formed between Anakin, Ahsoka, and Obi-Wan in The Clone Wars reveal that, had events transpired differently, these three Jedi could have become incredible Jedi Masters alongside one another. Already, they were a nearly unstoppable team, even while Ahsoka was still a Padawan and Anakin had not earned the rank of Master. Had the Order not fallen and Anakin, Ahsoka, and Obi-Wan all remained, they could have had a major hand in the future of the Jedi.

Of course, there are many layers to this. Even before Anakin fell to the dark side, Ahsoka had left the Jedi Order because the Jedi Council turned their backs on her when she was falsely accused of murder. There's also the question of what would have happened to Palpatine's plan if Anakin hadn't fallen to the dark side. Undoubtedly, this would have thrown a major wrench in things, but it's unlikely to have halted Palpatine entirely. Even so, it's clear that Anakin's fall and all the events that followed ripped apart what had been an incredible Jedi team.

Ahsoka, Anakin, And Obi-Wan's Story Will Always Be Tragic

This Friendship Being Lost Is Truly Crushing

Close

Star Wars has lessened the blow of this loss in recent years, especially with Obi-Wan Kenobi and Ahsoka. In Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin and Obi-Wan got something close to closure (Obi-Wan especially), and viewers got to see Anakin and Obi-Wan in the prequel trilogy era one last time. In Ahsoka, Ahsoka and Anakin reconnected in the World Between Worlds, and the damage Anakin had done was addressed head on. Yet, the pain of Anakin, Obi-Wan, and Ahsoka losing each other is never fully going to be healed in Star Wars.

This Star Wars art is the perfect reminder of that. While Anakin became a Force ghost, allowing him to reconnect with both Obi-Wan and Ahsoka, the potential future this trio had as Jedi Masters was permanently lost, not to mention the damage that was done for years. One of Star Wars' best trios is therefore also one of the franchise's saddest stories.
