New Kind of Assassin's Creed Game Teased For 2025

New Kind of Assassin's Creed Game Teased For 2025

The popular Assassin's Creed franchise could be coming to the tabletop in 2025. The Assassin's Creed franchise is gearing up for a big year, with the release of Assassin's Creed Shadows in February and several other games currently deep in development. Additionally, there are also several multimedia Assassin's Creed projects still in development, including multiple ventures with Netflix. However, there appears to be another surprise Assassin's Creed game in the works, although this one is for tabletop play.

As reported by Wargamer, tabletop publisher Mantic Games appears to have obtained the license to make an Assassin's Creed game. No specific plans were announced outside a tease in their 2025 launch video, but Mantic is best-known for making tabletop miniatures skirmish games.

Mantic's two most popular games are Walking Dead: All Out War and the new Halo: Flashpoint game. While it's possible that Mantic is developing a traditional Assassin's Creed board game (Mantic currently publishes a board game based on the Worms video game franchise), it seems more likely that Mantic is working on a new skirmish game of some kind.

Assassin's Creed Has Several Board Game Adaptations

Surprisingly, this isn't the first Assassin's Creed tabletop game planned for 2025. CMON is set to release a tabletop RPG based on the Assassin's Creed franchise, with players creating both modern-day characters and characters from various historical eras. The Canadian board game publisher Triton Noir has also published a series of Assassin's Creed campaign board games that expand into regions and eras not explored in the video games. As Triton Noir has continued to publish expansions for their Assassin's Creed board game, it seems more likely that Mantic is planning a skirmish miniatures game than a traditional board game.

While Assassin's Creed is typically associated with solo gameplay, it's likely that a skirmish game would follow a team of assassins similar to those seen in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, Assassin's Creed: Black Flag, or Assassin's Creed Unity, all of which featured multiplayer elements. The upcoming Assassin's Creed Shadows will also allow players to switch between mutliple protagonists in a shared storyline. The game might also use similar mechanics to Mantic's Halo: Flashpoint, which mimics some of the multiplayer team action of the Halo franchise.

Our Take: Assassin's Creed Is An Interesting Tabletop Project

Mantic Games Has The Chops To Make An Assassin's Creed Skirmish Game Work

An Assassin's Creed skirmish game has a lot of intrigue, given that the franchise is largely based on stealth and misdirection. We like the idea of players utilizing various building terrains and tactics to corner and snipe opponents like in the video games. Mantic is well-positioned to understand that Assassin's Creed isn't a traditional open-combat game and build a game system that really captures the spirit of Assassin's Creed (and make cool miniatures as well.) We can't wait to see what Mantic Games' plans for Assassin's Creed are later this year.
