Peter Pan Has a New Series On the Horizon, And It Will Force the Lost Boy Grow Up at Last

Peter Pan and his never-ending childhood have remained fascinating for generations. All adventures must come to an end sometime, however, and an upcoming BOOM! Studios comic series by Dan Panosian and Alessio Avallone offers the next step for the boy who wouldn't grow up. The Last Boy looks ahead to a time when Neverland itself is aging around Peter Pan and the steps he'll take to avoid change - or embrace it.

In an exciting upcoming release from BOOM! Studios, writer Panosian takes the reins of a character he’s loved for much of his life. In the five-issue comic series, The Last Boy seeks to explore the years after Peter Pan and Wendy Darling's initial encounter.

Although Peter continued to cling to his eternal youth, the clock kept ticking for the rest of his magical world - and the real one outside it. Panosian and Avallone's series centers on the intriguing idea of Peter Pan still refusing to grow up, even if everything around him progresses, including his friends and his greatest rival.

The Last Boy #1 pairs creator and writer Panosian with James Bond: 007 artist Avallone, whose art creates a fresh take on a world that won’t wait on its eternal boy any longer. Previews for the series show an aged Captain Hook - meaning that the passage of time alone may eliminate Peter’s primary antagonist - a grown Wendy, and Peter’s (former) playmates. His youth is a stark contrast to the grown-ups that now surround him, begging the question of what he's still holding onto. The Last Boy seeks to confront the potential cost of Peter continuing to cling to youth.

In addition to the struggles Peter will no doubt face from an aging Neverland, Wendy Darling has her own set of problems. No doubt due to her experiences in Neverland, she's "battling the liminal state between childhood and adulthood." It's a difficult transition for anyone to make, but Wendy has more reason than most to struggle with the idea of growing up. Unlike her friend, time hasn't paused for her. She's older now, and their upcoming battle against Captain Hook will look much different than the first. The world has changed, and time itself threatens to end their old adventures.

The Last Boy Asks Compelling Questions About the Concept of Peter Pan

A New Take on a Classic Story

The concept of immortality is always difficult to wrestle with. In theory, it allows a character to experience the world and continue finding ways to change in mind and spirit. Peter Pan's particular brand of youth, however, stands opposed to that idea. By refusing to grow up, he's simultaneously refusing to change. As The Last Boy unfolds, Peter may finally be prompted to choose a different way - or to prove once and for all what he's willing to sacrifice to stick to childhood. BOOM! Studios' The Last Boy offers a look at Peter Pan's path to the future and all it entails.

The Last Boy #1 is available March 19th, 2025 from BOOM! Studios.
