Everyone Who Dies In Laid Season 1 Explained

Everyone Who Dies In Laid Season 1 Explained

Warning: This article contains MAJOR SPOILERS for Peacock's Laid!

Because of the macabre premise, Laid season 1 includes 21 deaths that range from shocking to laughably ridiculous, adding comedy to Ruby’s horrific situation. The dark comedy show, which holds a 96% Rotten Tomatoes score, is based on an Australian show of the same name. The Peacock show follows Ruby Yao, a 33-year-old woman who figures out that all her exes are dying in the order that she slept with them. She and her best friend AJ set out to track the deaths, figure out what’s causing them, and warn the upcoming victims.

However, this becomes difficult with Ruby’s active sex life and high body count. To keep track of everyone involved, AJ creates a “sex timeline” that outlines everyone Ruby slept with, their background, when they had sex, what specific acts they did, and any identifying details about their genitalia. Throughout the series, they update the board, adding new information that comes up, such as their manner of death. This makes it easy to keep track of the men and women dying. By the end of the dark comedy, all but three of Ruby’s past sexual partners have bitten the dust.

14 David, Ruby’s First Sexual Partner

Before Laid Season 1, Episode 1, “Brandon From College”

Ruby had sex for the first time with her high school boyfriend David, who fingered her at prom. Though he’s never shown onscreen, David is painted as one of Ruby’s better exes. She describes him as sweet, and she can’t remember why exactly they broke up. Based on Ruby’s voicemails while calling him, they had a bit where Ruby would leave messages on his machine pretending to be different celebrities.

Unfortunately, she learns through a phone call that David died of sepsis. Even though she only learns about his death at the end of Laid season 1, episode 1, he actually died before Brandon. This revelation helps AJ realize that Ruby’s exes are dying in the order that she slept with them.

12 Brandon Rafferty From College

Laid Season 1, Episode 1, “Brandon From College”

The first death that Ruby learns about in Laid is that of her ex-boyfriend, Brandon Rafferty, from college. At first, she doesn’t even remember him, but she eventually figures out that he was the man who farted a little bit every time he thrust during sex, leading to the nickname “Farty Scorsese.” She and AJ also agreed back in school that he looked like a tall Bilbo Baggins.

The best friends attend Brandon’s funeral only to learn that he was a virgin when he slept with Ruby, and he became obsessed with her after they broke up, even naming his dog after her. Despite their best efforts, AJ and Ruby never figure out how he died, suspecting that a gunshot killed him.

11 Jeffrey, Brandon’s Best Friend

Laid Season 1, Episode 1, “Brandon From College”

At Brandon’s funeral, Ruby runs into Brandon’s best friend, Jeffrey, with whom she also had sex. The two leave the funeral, but they get into a fight when Ruby tries to kiss him. Jeffrey blames her for ruining his friendship with Brandon back in college, even though he came onto her first. After calling her a terrible person, he stops their Uber and storms away into the street. A driver hits him, sending him flying into the Uber’s windshield. This is one of the most shocking and bloodiest onscreen deaths in Laid, setting the tone for the rest of the show.

10 Michael Schloss

Laid Season 1, Episode 2, “FB To The T”

While most of Ruby’s ex-sexual partners appear onscreen, one of the few characters who isn’t shown is Michael Schloss. They don’t add any details about him on the sex timeline, so his relationship with Ruby is mysterious. He lived from 1987 to 2024, making him 37 at the time of his death. When talking to the detective about having a stalker, Ruby reveals that he died from anorexia, claiming a stalker might have taken advantage of his illness to kill him. After his death, someone who had his account liked one of Ruby’s Instagram posts, which was a paraphrased poem.

9 Robert, The Man Ruby Thought She’d Marry

Laid Season 1, Episode 2, “FB To The T”

Of all the people she slept with, Ruby only expresses true love towards two of her exes in Laid. Robert is the man who she and her friends thought she would marry. AJ and Ruby never discuss why the duo broke up, but it’s clear that Ruby feels heartbroken about losing him. Unfortunately, she goes to his wedding without a plus-one, which she confronts him about.

In response, he tells Ruby that she’s too selfish for someone to want a serious, long-term relationship with her. This sends her spiraling, leading to Ruby sleeping with Zack – AJ’s on-again, off-again boyfriend of five years. After she and Zack leave for the woods, AJ hears Robert say that he’s dying of lymphoma, which is confirmed as his method of death in his obituary.

8 Stu Jackward, The Baseball Player

Laid Season 1, Episode 2, “FB To The T”

When talking about baseball player Stu Jackward to AJ, Ruby describes him as her first adult relationship. Stu shot ruby a t-shirt from the t-shirt canon with his phone number on it at an event. After she called him, he took her to a Ruth’s Chris Steak House. During sex, Stu gave Ruby her first orgasm.

However, she watches him die on a TV screen alongside everyone else in Laid season 1, episode 2. Stu Jackward takes a foul ball to the temple during a baseball game, which AJ shortens to “FB to the T” throughout season 1. During the aftermath of the death, the mascot doesn’t realize what’s happening and tries to hype up the crowd, giving the situation a hilarious dichotomy.

7 Ruby’s Sex Cluster (Simon, João, Philipe & Jordana, Chuck, Corbin the Clown, Lug, Pete the Bartender, and Brian Glidewell)

Laid Season 1, Episode 3, “Sex Cluster”

Episode 3 of Laid focuses solely on Ruby’s “sex cluster,” a group of 10 people with whom Ruby had sex over a short period. The members of the sex cluster include a finance bro, a previous foreign exchange student, two members of a throuple, a man she met at Popeyes, a clown, a man who ate his feelings, a bar trivia host, a bartender, and a man who has disappeared.

Characters Method of Death Simon Car crash João Chainsaw to the chest Philippe and Jordana Sauna Malfunction Chuck Rock climbing accident Corbin the Clown Heart attack Lucas/Lug Colon blowout in a burpees bootcamp Pete the Bartender Unknown Brian Glidewell "Glided well into the afterlife"

Ruby and AJ set out to warn the people who will die, but almost none of them believe her, thinking she’s being dramatic. The only person who fully buys into the sex/death timeline is Richie, the one member of the sex cluster who doesn’t die.

6 John Early, A Gay Comedian/Actor

Laid Season 1, Episode 4, “Flagstaff”

The openly gay actor John Early plays a fictionalized version of himself in the cast of Laid. Ruby and John first met at the start of COVID-19 during a mutual friend’s barbecue. They had sex after drinking maitais because he figured he might as well sleep with a woman once, leading to a hilarious sex scene where they’re wearing masks.

Ruby tries to warn him about his impending death while on a plane, but he says that unless she is going to pay him $2.5 million, then he’s going to Flagstaff to sell an Icelandic yogurt called Siggi. Ultimately, this decision leads to his demise, as he’s the only person who dies in a plane crash.

5 Caleb, The Bank Teller

Laid Season 1, Episode 5, “Secret Soft”

The first scene of Laid shows Ruby warning Caleb about his impending death through the glass at his bank job. She reminds him they met in a bar and had White Russians and clam linguini together. They hooked up in the bathroom, and he gave her the wrong number. However, she never calls, so she doesn’t discover this until after talking to him at the bank. While she’s with the detective, a shooting occurs at the bank, killing Caleb. Despite the fact that she couldn’t be present at the bank, the detective continues to suspect her of killing her exes.

4 Aubrey, Ruby’s “One Who Got Away”

Laid Season 1, Episode 6, “More Handsome Than Joe”

Close

Other than Robert, the only person Ruby expresses that she loves is her “one who got away” – Aubrey La Binga. Ruby goes to Aubrey’s tattoo studio to warn her about her upcoming death, but she can’t get up the nerve. Instead, she asks Aubrey to give her a tattoo in Laid so that they will have more time together. While prepping Ruby for her tattoo, they talk about their relationship.

Aubrey and Ruby dated for over a year, and Ruby only told her girlfriend about her dad's estrangement six months into their romance. Aubrey says that Ruby kept her at arms’ length, then broke things off so they could “rediscover ourselves as individuals.” Sadly, during their intimate conversation, Aubrey is shot through the head by accident, splattering blood all over Ruby and Richie.

3 Marcus, The Chocolatorium Waiter

Laid Season 1, Episode 7, “Toby & Lindsey Are”

One of Ruby’s recent sexual partners, who is barely discussed throughout Laid, is Marcus, the Chocolatorium Waiter. Marcus worked at a restaurant called Chuckaboo’s Chocolatorium. It’s unclear how they met or the events leading up to their hookup. Based on the information on the sex timeline, they only hooked up once, and he had a very clean bathroom. Ruby learns of his death when Isaac comes over to say he believes her. After researching the people on Ruby’s sex timeline, Isaac went to talk to Marcus at his workplace and saw him running through the restaurant on fire.

2 The Brett Heely Trio

Laid Season 1, Episode 8, “Il Mostro Del Sesso”

After Marcus, Ruby slept with a group of musicians called the Brett Heely Trio, who were on tour with Kelly Clarkson. While planning Isaac’s parents’ anniversary party, she books the group to play. In the final episode of Laid season 1, AJ rushes in after her dinner with Amanda Knox to make up with Ruby. The best friends and Isaac then watch the group die while performing onstage.

The first guy dies because of an allergic reaction to shrimp, the second one dies because he gets electrocuted, and the third one gets crushed by a gigantic chandelier. After their deaths, Ruby takes steps to transfer the hex onto their upstairs neighbor.

1 "Bad Sex Spotify Ads" Jason

Laid Season 1, Episode 8, “Il Mostro Del Sesso”

The final death at the end of Laid season 1 is the man she went on a date with in the first episode, Jason. They went on three dates together before having sex. On their third date, they discussed their bad dates, with Ruby revealing that a man she went out with brought up cannibalism. The pair then went to his apartment, where they had terrible sex. According to Ruby, the worst part was the abnormal rhythm. The romantic playlist also kept getting interrupted by Spotify ads, gaining him the nickname “bad sex Spotify ads Jason.”

Ruby thinks the hex has successfully been transferred when he hasn’t died in a month’s time. However, she learns that her exes are still dying when Jason plunges to his death at the zoo after his race. Consequently, Zack and Isaac will die in Laid season 2 if they don’t find a way to stop whatever’s truly causing the deaths.

Laid season 2 hasn't been confirmed as of 3 January 2024.
