Why You Should Consider a Light Yellow Engagement Ring

Today we’re exploring the beauty and benefits of a light yellow diamond. Learn what sets them

apart from a fancy yellow diamond and why you should consider one for your engagement ring.

What is a Light Yellow Diamond?

A light yellow diamond is a traditional diamond that falls on the far end of the color scale. The

diamond color chart ranges from D to Z. D, E and F being completely colorless to the naked eye,

while S through Z have a light yellow hue. Explore our limited series of light yellow diamond

Official GIA Color Scale

What’s the difference between a light yellow and fancy yellow diamond?

Fancy yellow diamonds are classified by a deeper, more saturated yellow color that falls outside

of the colorless grading scale. For this reason, fancy yellow diamonds are rarer, and more

expensive. Light yellow diamonds are just that: lighter and paler in tone, but with a clear yellow

hue. Light yellow diamonds are often set in yellow gold in order to enhance the tone of the

diamond.

Why is a Light Yellow Diamond a Great Choice For an Engagement Ring?

A Rare and Radiant Beauty

With their soft golden hue, light yellow diamonds exude a warm, romantic glow that sets them

apart from traditional colorless diamonds. These diamonds work beautifully in vintage-inspired

settings - creating a modern heirloom with timeless appeal. We think they’re the perfect choice

for someone looking for a distinctive and elegant engagement ring.

The Fancy Yellow Look For Less

If you love the look of a fancy yellow diamond, but want to stay within a more accessible

budget, a light yellow diamond is an excellent choice. Light yellow diamonds offer a strikingly

similar aesthetic at a fraction of the cost. Because they sit lower on the color grading scale, they

are significantly more affordable than both colorless (D-F) and fancy yellow diamonds.

Tips from a Lauren B Design Consultant: Adelina

“I love suggesting a light yellow diamond to a client who is interested in yellow diamonds. The

difference between a Z color to a fancy light yellow can be a savings of tens of thousands of dollars

for a very similar look”

Any advice on setting a light yellow diamond?

“One way to make a light yellow diamond appear more saturated in color is by setting it with yellow

gold prongs and with a yellow gold “cup” underneath the diamond which reflects and holds that

yellow light within your center stone”
