Marvel's New Cosmic Villain Makes Galactus Look Like a Force for Good
Galactus has existed as Marvel's greatest cosmic threat, but the recent reveal of a new Spider-Man villain known as the Blight shows that a quick planet consumption by Galactus may not be the worst way to go out. While Galactus is one of the most powerful beings in the Marvel Universe, this new nightmare-inducing monstrosity is a massive interdimensional peril that will strike fear into the hearts of any superhero.

Galactus’ role as a highly powerful being – one who requires the consumption of planets to sate his hunger and who has set his sights on Earth many times before – has made him an unquestionable problem for both Earth and the heroes who are forced to face him. However, the planet devourer’s methods are arguably more tame than this new cosmic threat. Instead of quick, straightforward destruction, the Blight first infects the population with a zombie-like virus before it enters it's new domain, giving it full control over all life forms it infects.
On top of the Blight showing its strength in conquering the god Cyttorak’s realm, it set its sights on Earth by infecting Cyclops’ X-Men team.
While Galactus travels through the galaxy to find planets to consume, the Blight’s methods are far more brutal, as it’s shown to wield the ability to infect a Scion of Cyttorak and take control of the Crimson Dimension. On top of the Blight showing its strength in conquering the god Cyttorak’s realm, it set its sights on Earth by infecting Cyclops’ X-Men team as well as hordes of New Yorkers. The Blight’s raw and horrifying power is further emphasized when its massive form gains access to Earth-616’s dimension, sparking massive pandemonium and reaching its eerie hand down from the sky.

Marvel’s New Cosmic Villain Upstages Galactus
Not only is the Blight a nightmare-fueled amorphous creature, but its possession of the X-Men and Callix shows its parasitic infection causes black lesions on the skin as it eats away at the unwitting host’s soul. The Blight’s ability to infect and control powerful superheroes like the X-Men and easily destroy demigods like the Scions of Cyttorak makes it one of Marvel’s most consequential and intimidating world-ending villains. In its very brief introduction, new Spider-Man villain the Blight endangers the Marvel Universe with the threat of Earth’s slow and painful end as it is ravaged by turmoil, making Galactus consuming Earth seem like a merciful fate.
