Yellowjackets Season 3 Is Pointing To This Character As Lottie's Killer, But I Think It's Too Obvious To Be True

WARNING! This article contains SPOILERS for Yellowjackets season 3, episode 6!While they’re still grieving Natalie, the present-day survivors are also contending with the mystery of Lottie’s death in Yellowjackets season 3, and the show is now hinting at a dark twist to the killer’s identity. At the end of Yellowjackets season 3, episode 4, Misty learned from Walter that Lottie Matthews was found dead under suspicious circumstances. Earlier that day, Lottie had been on the phone with Tai and Van, had gone to the bank, and was traveling around the city, making her sudden death in the basement of her father’s hotel building a massive mystery for Misty to unfold.

When Misty starts her investigation, there are very few leads regarding Lottie’s killer in Yellowjackets season 3. While Lottie’s father is suspicious, his peculiarities don’t necessarily imply that he’s a murderer. Additionally, Shauna kicking Lottie out of her house made her a suspect, but she was busy volunteering with Misty when Lottie was killed. Misty’s trail also leads her to Lisa, a former member of Lottie’s cult who Natalie saved by sacrificing herself, but her anger also doesn’t indicate murder. However, Misty’s meeting with Lisa ends up potentially implicating another wilderness survivor in Lottie’s death – but with a big twist.

Yellowjackets Season 3 Hints "Other" Tai Killed Lottie

"Tai" Met Up With Lottie Shortly Before Her Death

Though she initially seemed the most straight-laced with her legal career, political pursuits, content marriage, and son, the events of Yellowjackets season 1 unfolded to reveal that Tai had plenty of skeletons in her closet. From the secret wilderness shrine in her basement to the reveal of Tai’s dirt-eating, sleepwalking alter ego, it became difficult to trust that Tai was as removed from her ruthless wilderness persona as she made it seem. At the same time, that does technically seem to be relatively true for Taissa Turner herself – the problem is with the “other” Tai, who occasionally takes over.

Yellowjackets season 1 revealed that Tai had a menacing sleepwalking alter ego who was more prone to trouble, malice, odd behaviors, and associations with the supernatural. As a teenager in the wilderness, “other” Tai would sleepwalk, eat dirt outside, and find herself walking to the symbol-carved tree when being led by the Man with No Eyes. However, she didn’t only take over Tai at night, as Yellowjackets later revealed that “other” Tai would also emerge in moments of passion, fear, and high vulnerability – even as an adult.

Related Yellowjackets: Who "Other" Tai Is & Her Powers Explained One of the biggest mysteries in Yellowjackets has to do with "Other" Tai, who often takes control of the character during pivotal moments.

Throughout Yellowjackets season 3, Tai had been exhibiting strangely impulsive and risky behavior that was more reflective of her alter ego, with the end of episode 6 even hinting that “other” Tai had been in control of her the entire season. While going to sleep, Tai began desperately screaming for Van to help her, only for Tai to suddenly change her demeanor and tell Van to go to sleep. With Sammy also previously asking Tai whether she was still his mom, all signs are pointing to “other” Tai being in the driver’s seat during Yellowjackets season 3.

Yellowjackets Season 3 Deaths Character Timeline Episode # Lottie Matthews Present 4 Coach Ben Past 6

Therefore, when Lisa reveals to Misty in Yellowjackets season 3, episode 6 that Tai met with Lottie at the café right before she died, I’m convinced it was actually “other” Tai who met with her. Tai had been missing for about an hour before her date with Van in the park, and she continued to play coy about what she was doing during that time. When also considering that “other” Tai maintains a strange relationship with Yellowjackets’ mysterious symbol and the Wilderness’ supernatural powers, her alter ego is the most likely suspect for Lottie’s killer during that timeframe.

I Think Other Tai Is Already Responsible For Burning Down The Cabin

Yellowjackets Season 3 Has Put Another Big Focus On Other Tai

Alongside Yellowjackets’ present-day timeline pointing to “other” Tai as Lottie Matthews’ killer, the wilderness timeline is dropping hints at Tai’s alter ego being responsible for another crime. After Yellowjackets season 2’s ending, one of the biggest mysteries surrounded the identity of who burned down the cabin. The evidence was originally pointing toward Coach Ben, who fled the cabin with matches and supplies after lingering around woodpiles, but season 3 revealed that he never even knew the structure burned down until Mari told him. If it wasn’t Ben, the arson had to be someone inside the cabin or a brand-new character.

Related Yellowjackets: Everything Taissa Did While Sleepwalking (So Far) Yellowjackets season 2 has made Taissa's sleepwalking even more disturbing. What are the things she's done in this state, and how much does she know?

Given the darkness, unpredictability, and apparent proclivity to violence seen with her alter ego, the most likely candidate for who burned down the cabin is now “other” Tai. Of course, Tai wouldn’t have any memory of lighting the cabin on fire, as her alter ego would have done so while sleepwalking. The evidence for the arson being “other” Tai is also supported by the fact that Tai was already at the back door of the cabin with an axe when Shauna tried to get everyone out.

Still, it’s unclear why she would want to kill the teens, including herself.

Since the doors were intentionally barricaded to keep the teens inside the cabin, it doesn’t seem like it was just the “Wilderness” using its powers to start a fire around them. While it could be connected to the new strangers who appear in Yellowjackets season 3, episode 6’s ending, it doesn’t appear that they’ve been stranded for that long in the wilderness. Currently, "other" Tai is the only character who would have the ruthlessness and dissociation from the other survivors to go through with burning the cabin. Still, it’s unclear why she would want to kill the teens, including herself.

Will Yellowjackets Really Make Other Tai Responsible For The Two Biggest Season 3 Mysteries?

Lottie's Death & The Cabin Burning Still Need Answers

With the evidence pointing to “other” Tai as the perpetrator of the cabin fire and Lottie Matthews’ murder, it looks like she’ll be responsible for both of Yellowjackets season 3’s biggest crimes. Though the show’s past and present timeline stories often mirror each other, it would be strange for “other” Tai to be revealed as the arson in the past, but not have Yellowjackets’ present-day survivors already consider her to be a potential suspect for Lottie’s murder, as the adults often use their actions in the wilderness as reasons to be suspicious of one another today.

"Other" Tai may have taken over again during the adults' Queen of Hearts ritual in the season 2 finale.

Additionally, if “other” Tai is revealed as the perpetrator in both timelines, then their respective storylines would become much too similar in the aftermath. In both cases, the survivors would want to figure out how to get rid of “other” Tai and keep real Tai in control. But, given the fact that she returns in the present timeline, we would already know that the teens’ solution to keeping “other” Tai below the surface is only temporary. While I’m almost certain that “other” Tai is to blame for one of Yellowjackets season 3’s mysteries, I’m not yet convinced that it’s both.
