Runescape Trademark May Reveal The Name Of Upcoming Survival Game, Indicating An Announcement Is On The Way
RuneScape developer Jagex has filed for a trademark for RuneScape: Dragonwilds, potentially giving a name to their upcoming adventure survival project. RuneScape is a classic fantasy MMO that's been around since 2001 and which helped to popularize the idea of massively multiplayer titles. The game followed in Ultima's footsteps and paved the way for MMORPG giants like FFXIV to exist today.
The team behind the classic title is now preparing to launch a brand-new project set in the world of the beloved RPG. The trademark for Dragonwilds was spotted by an eagle-eyed Redditor named ElyxUW, and can be viewed on the Intellectual Property Office of the UK website. According to the listing, the trademark was filed on March 4, though the project has been in the works since around 2022. Now, it seems that the upcoming game officially has a name, as the developer gets ready to roll out more information.
Jagex Files Trademark For RuneScape: Dragonwilds
This Isn't The Company's First Foray Into Open-World Survival
Close
Jagex hasn't been entirely dormant in the years since RuneScape's initial release over 23 years ago. The company has worked on its own and with third-party developers to expand their classic to a new and improved version of RuneScape, while keeping the old-school title running, as well. Jagex has also released additional titles, including the indie-developed and RuneScape-inspired Melvor Idle and the open-world survival SCUM.

However, the past few years have been quiet for the company as it presumably prepared its upcoming title for launch. RuneScape: Dragonwilds is the first hint of a name for Jagex's new game, which will be an open-world survival title like SCUM, created using Unreal Engine 5 and set in the RuneScape universe. Not much else is known about the upcoming title at this time.
Alpha Testing Signups Are No Longer Open For Jagex's Upcoming Game
The Company May Be Preparing To Officially Announce The Title
A website for the upcoming game is still live but at the time of this writing, it's no longer accepting alpha tester registrations. The trademark filing and closure of testing may indicate that Jagex may be preparing to re-launch the website under the game's official name, rather than the generic "survival.runescape" domain where it currently resides.
RuneScape is a nostalgic title which many older gamers hold near and dear to their hearts. The classic game paved the way for modern MMOs, and seems posed to continue its legacy through a new title. All signs point to an official announcement coming soon about the RuneScape: Dragonwilds project.
