In the Ultimate Universe, Peter Parker unlocks his superpowers much later in life once he's already had kids, one of them being Richard. Once he vanishes and gets caught up in Kraven's deadly hunt, Richard steps up and takes his father's place as Spider-Man so that the city is protected in his absence. He dons a striking black costume formed from the picotech suit, which bears a resemblance to the iconic symbiote suit. Though Richard doesn't have powers from a radioactive spider bite, the picotech technology allows him to emulate Peter's abilities and become a full-fledged superhero.

Prior to Richard suiting up, Spider-Man has been operating alongside Harry Osborn's Green Goblin during his superhero exploits, and thus didn't need another crime-fighting partner. However, with Harry out of the picture for the foreseeable future, he needs another ally now that a turf war is breaking out among the Sinister Six. The stakes are higher than ever, so Richard couldn't have picked a better time to become a fellow Spider-Man. This new Spider-Man will surely be an invaluable accomplice to his father in the fight to come against foes like Mysterio, since two Spider-Men are always better than one.

Richard may lack experience, but he has the picotech suit helping him out, which allows him to keep up with his father despite being powerless. Peter Parker's son is already following in his footsteps, showing that his suit-up isn't a temporary development and will continue throughout the series. Spider-Man fans can look forward to seeing him team up with his son as they face off against the Sinister Six together.
