Sorry Solo Helldivers 2 Players, Your Missions Just Got A Lot Harder

Summary Solo missions in Helldivers 2 can be faster and more stealth-oriented.

Patch 01.000.300 significantly increases enemy patrols for solo players.

The game now heavily incentivizes squads of four, making solo play in Helldivers 2 even more challenging.

Most players tend to complete Helldivers 2 missions in groups of up to four, facing the horde of Terminids and Automatons with their comrades beside them, but a select brave few choose to execute these missions alone. Solo Helldivers have it hard enough without allies to watch their back, but it is convenient as matchmaking is not required, and the missions tend to be scaled down so that they aren't impossible. That, and players don't need to fear team killing if there isn't a team.

There are a plethora of other reasons to do solo missions too; they tend to be much faster and the missions have a completely different feel to them. Rather than the rampant chaos of being thrown knee-deep into a cascade of deadly foes, a solo mission in Helldivers 2 tends to become more stealth orientated, revolving around taking out certain targets and avoiding enemy patrols. With the latest patch, however, avoiding patrols will be harder than ever.

Patch 01.000.300 Makes It Harder For Solo Helldivers

Increased Patrol Spawns

Close

The latest patch has added a variety of balancing changes, including the tweaking of weapons,Strategems, and enemies, as well as the general fixing of multiple bugs. Many of these bugs are to do with crossplay and friend invites, which has been an ongoing issue since launch. One of the most significant changes to gameplay in Patch 01.000.300, according to the Steam patch notes, is the change to the number of patrols that players attempting solo missions now experience.

This number has been increased significantly, because of a miscalculation the game made when players entered solo missions. Rather than reducing enemy patrols to a quarter of what they should be if the mission was attempted by a full team, the game reduced the number of patrols to one sixth. This reduced the number of enemies solo players should have had to deal with, which has now been rectified. According to the patch notes, "Patrol spawning has been increased when there are fewer than 4 players" and "The biggest noticeable change will be for solo players at higher difficulties."

Players may want to reevaluate their preferred Stratagems following Patch 01.000.300, since popular choices like the Quasar Cannon have been nerfed.

Helldivers 2 Is Now Harder For Everyone

Matchmaking Issues May Exacerbate Difficulty

Patrol spawning has been increased as long as there are fewer than four players, meaning anyone in a squad of less than four has it harder. With continued issues with matchmaking, this is somewhat of a strange change, as it means that Helldivers 2 expects players to be in squads of four despite these issues. Those that suffer at the hands of poor matchmaking or who just want to play alone, suffer the most, and are now expected to contend with even harsher adversity in a game notorious for its difficulty.
